Calcium and Vitamin D Supplements OK for Coronary Arteries
High calcium levels are predictive of coronary artery disease. Coronary arteries supply blood to the heart. Blockage of these blood vessels is called a heart attack. A study from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston found similar coronary calcium levels in women taking calcium and vitamin D supplements, compared to women taking a placebo (fake supplements). Women can take calcium and vitamin D supplements to promote bone health without risking coronary artery disease. (HealthDay, June 15, 2010)
