Get Happy to get FIT

Get Happy to get FIT

tiffany-boyds-tahoeJanuary has flown by!  Are your New Years Resolutions in full effect?  How many of you are still working towards your goals?  Well my goal this year is to get healthy inside and out.  Balance the unbalanced, find my happy medium, and remember to have fun.

I went away with family and friends at the beginning of January.  I was with the people who support any decision I make and love me no matter what.  These are also the people that aren’t afraid to challenge me.  And that they did when I was asked, “Are you happy?”  To be honest, I hadn’t been in a very long time.  I was so wrapped up in my everyday life and felt alone.  I had the same routine:  wake up, eat breakfast, plan out my day/meals, head to the gym, work, meetings, back to work and sit on the computer.  This was my EVERYDAY and not one thing changed.

I did a lot of thinking that weekend and remembered what fun was when I was there.  We have to remember to let loose once and a while and act like a kid again from time to time.  Fun can come easily, especially with the right people in your life!  I realized I needed a big change and I was the only one that could make it happen.

I came up with a few tactics to rediscover my own happiness and I suggest them to anyone looking for a way to break out from whatever is holding you down.

Tiffany's Tips for Happiness:

Friends and family:  Surround yourself with the ones that remind you of what happiness truly is.  Great friends and family are the keys to happiness.  No matter what you do or say they will love you no matter what.  Family and great friends will get you out of your everyday.  They push you to be better and only want the best for you.  They will also be brutally honest.  I cannot tell you how many times I have been called out to just live a little.  This year and every year from here on out is all about living.  Still living my healthy ways, just not letting it hold me back from having fun!  I couldn’t have seen a clearer picture of this until I was surrounded by the love of my friends and family.

Shutting down:  It’s one thing to have a routine and another to have it consume you.  When work is done, come home and do something that makes you feel like the old you.  Read a book you’ve been wanting to read, paint, write - whatever it is that you enjoy doing.  So shut down the computer, set cell phones aside, and just give yourself some quality time.

Get out:  After the work week is done and your weekend is here, plan on doing something you love.  Go hiking, enjoy great food with great friends, go miniature golfing; whatever it is do it and just have fun!  Even if you can’t spend the money to go out and do things, there are a ton of activities you can do that don't cost anything.  So don’t let that be an excuse.  Just get out and enjoy life for what it has to offer.

These are small things I have been doing to remind myself to keep the fun in my life.  I know it’s exciting to get into a new regimen to reach your new goals, but don’t let it consume you in a negative way.  Let it be easy and simple.  Laughing and having fun is just as much needed as vitamins and healthy eating.  It’s key to your overall health, so keep working on your goals you have set for this year and smile doing them.
