Goal Check!

Goal Check! It’s that time of year when the leaves turn color, the weather turns cooler, and the Halloween candy temptation is everywhere! I made the regrettable mistake of digging into our stash of candy this past weekend. While I was opening the bag, I ignored the little voice of reason in my head that told me it was a bad idea.Countless mini bags of M&M’s, fun size Kit Kats, Twix, Milky Ways, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups later, I found myself doubled over with stomach pain. If I knew it was a bad idea, why did I even open the bag in the first place?
It was easy for me to ignore the voice of reason because I didn’t have my goals posted in front of me. This is a great time of year to remind ourselves of our fitness goals. With all the tempting candy, holiday dinners, and seasonal treats, how can we stay on track with our goal plans?
Think of your 2011 New Year’s Resolutions. How are you doing with those? There are only two months left of the year ... are your fitness goals on track? Have you competed in that show? Have you lost a dress size? Have you hit a personal record for your squat? Have you started eating more veggies? Have you attended a new fitness class?
It’s not too late!
Take a minute to read over your goals again and come up with some action steps for the next eight weeks. Be sure to account for holiday meals and occasional treats. Too many restrictions on a diet can lead to setbacks.
Just because your co-workers, family members, and friends are all indulging during the holidays doesn’t mean you need to throw aside your fitness goals. If you get derailed from your plans, put the treats back in the pantry and jump right back into your fitness routine. Remind yourself that you didn’t fail; you were merely momentarily derailed and you’re right back on track again.
I’ve moved my Halloween candy out onto the porch and have mentally locked the door. I’m back on my training and meal plan today, and am feeling so much better already! It’s time to continue making progress toward my goals!
