Tough Love

Toughlove2_RotatorTough love. It sure can sting at first!  Often times, the first reaction is to withdraw and reject it, but really it can be exactly what you need to help you reach your goals.

This was the case with me a week ago when I sent my trainer a weekly update on my progress. I wouldn’t say I had done terribly, but I wasn’t giving 100% either. He noticed. At first, I took his criticism personally and was upset. How did he know if I was committed to my plan or not?! But when I sat down and was honest with myself, I knew he was right.

Partially sticking to my diet and workouts won’t get me closer to my goals. Professional athletes don’t partially train for their sport, and neither should I.  No one, athlete or not, will reach their goals by putting in partial effort.

Don’t offer yourself excuses as to why you’re not being fully committed to your goals. Give your full attention to each task at hand and do it with passion! Use these tips next time you find yourself slipping to get back on track.

1) Be brutally honest with yourself. Identify weak areas in your training or diet.

2) Construct a path of success for each area of weakness. I have a major sweet tooth so have been perfecting the perfect chocolate protein brownie that fits in my plan J

3) Be open to constructive criticism, especially if this is coming from your trainer/coach.

4) Make a vision board of inspirational athletes to motivate some good old hard work!

5) Fully commit, and don’t cut corners. Anything in life worth doing will take hard work, but the results and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with it will be worth it.
