Treat Yourself - Don't Cheat Yourself!

Goals, goals, goals. Everyone is talking about goals, setting goals, and doing their best to FOLLOW through! YES! Sometimes we all get sick of hearing the super motivated people talk about how it is SO easy to reach them when you focus. Well... it is!
Do YOU have goals? And are YOU focusing on them? Or are you cheating yourself? It is so important in each and every aspect of life to have goals! Little goals set us up for our big goals! I truly believe in Winston Churchill’s quote when it comes to planning goals: “Fail to plan, and plan on failing.”
We all have our days when we are SO good, and then we have the days when we are flat out weak! Well, when you are really ready to achieve a goal of eating healthy— a goal many of us have— the cookie your friend is shoving down her throat doesn’t even sound appetizing. The thought of cheating ourselves out of our goal will become so vague because our will to conquer it is MORE important. How can we overcome cheats and cheating ourselves? Let’s get to the bottom of this!
Find your motivation. The reasoning for wanting to achieve your goal may be the only thing that will help you succeed— whether it be looking good at your best friend’s wedding this summer, or making your ex-boyfriend jealous of the fact that you look better than ever and he will never have you back ;)
Focus on YOUR goal. As for myself, the more I focus on my goal and remember how bad I want to conquer it, the more I don’t want to go crazy and CHEAT myself. The more you focus on how bad you want something, the easier it becomes to deny things that were tempting you before. Now we are all human, and does a doughnut sound good sometimes? Ummm, YEAH! So instead of setting ourselves back, let’s try and consider something a little healthier, such as a sugar free pudding, that WON’T set us back.
Reward yourself. The other morning I woke up all excited because it was the day of my cheat meal, dun dun dunnnn... I had been so good the whole week and I felt the need for a reward. My reward is my cheat meal, but it’s also a battle in my head as to whether or not I should have it. In the end I always listen to my coach and follow her advice. I wanted to save my cheat for dinner because this helps me eat clean the whole day and not be thrown off. Later on that evening, I enjoyed a great slice of pizza and was ready to get back on track!
Change your thoughts, change your ways. When taking baby steps to your ultimate goal, change the way you think! It’s not that you HAVE to change, it’s that you WANT to change to be a better you. A great tip I heard from a friend: being healthy is a journey, not a destination! You don’t HAVE to eat healthy and work out, you CHOOSE to be healthy and work out. When I think of long-term reasons for eating healthy, I remember the benefits it will bring. Instead of being 80 in the hospital due to health problems, don’t you want to be 80 on that treadmill training for a local 5K?!
When trying to hit that goal, all it takes is a change in your thoughts and a little self-control in your own thought process! When you go to grab that piece of cake or hinder that goal, stop! Analyze! And control your thought process! Don’t CHEAT yourself out of YOUR goal! YOU can do it! The “Skye’s the Limit” and you can achieve anything you put your mind to!
