“Top Trainers” Workout Program Review

top-trainers-dvd“Top Trainers” Workout Program Review

Ever since I did the “The Butt Bible” six-week program, I’ve been interested in trying another DVD program that has a set guideline on a day-to-day basis. So I went from a six-week program … to a 60-day one! This “Top Trainers” program is unlike any other I’ve done before. It comes with 10 workout DVDs, as well as a 60-day workout calendar that explains which workouts to do on each day. So instead of getting one trainer, you are getting 10 and you are mixing up your workout daily.

I’m becoming a fan of programs like this that tell you exactly what to do every day and provide a goal to work toward. For me, it works better than going to the gym, where I can sometimes become overwhelmed and unsure of what I’m doing. Also, I enjoy completing an efficient workout right from my own home. This set is a little bit on the expensive side, but you are getting a lot for your money. The program utilizes the “blend” method, which means it includes a wide variety of workouts. Changing up your workouts is an effective way to tone and lose weight. Plus, since you are doing something different every day, you won’t get bored.

I’m in my third week of the program, so I haven’t done all the DVDs yet. While I am enjoying the program so far, I do have some problems with certain DVDs. Also, those who are at a more advanced fitness level may think that some of these workouts are not challenging enough. But all in all, the program has everything I could possibly want: yoga, cardio, toning and sculpting, kickboxing, and something I’ve been really interested in trying: a “Ballet Body” workout. The set also comes with a bonus “Yoga for Weight Loss” DVD.

top-trainers-dvd-insideHere are some of my favorite DVDs that I’ve tried so far:
- Lindsay Brin’s “Shed 5 Fast:” Unique moves and the workout seemed to go by fast, which is always a good thing. I prefer more intense workouts than this, but overall this is good, especially if you are pressed for time and want a quick workout.

- Ellen Barret’s “Yogini Workout:” Loved this workout. It uses elements of yoga and Pilates, but is not a traditional yoga workout. Those who have never done yoga would also most likely be able to do this. I sometimes get bored with yoga DVDs, but this one added its own flair. It is a good toning and strengthening workout, and a great addition to any exercise program.

- Jennifer Galardi’s “Ballet Body:” I’ve heard a lot about ballet workouts and have been interested in trying one for a while. I liked this one and found it challenging, which I prefer. This workout is based on many moves that dancers do, and is designed to get you that long, lean body of a ballet dancer. There is not much cardio involved, but this is a great workout to do in between cardio days.

- “Stephanie Vitorino: The Ultimate Body Shaper:” This one had me sweating the most, and I loved it. In between weight training there are cardio intervals, my favorite kind of workout. It was easy to do in my home. I’m looking forward to making this one a regular part of my workout regimen.

- Tracey Mallett’s “6 Minute Quick Blast Method:” I love this. It’s another great one that infuses cardio and strength moves. I also like that on the screen it shows you how much time you have left in the segment (there are several 6-minute intervals). I love working out, but it helps me to know how much time is left, and I also like working out in intervals. This DVD includes cardio as well as yoga workouts.

So far, here are the DVDs I wasn’t particularly fond of:

- “Christi Taylor: Mission Possible:” I didn’t like this workout for the simple fact that I didn’t have the right equipment for it. It actually looks pretty fun, but it’s a step routine and I didn’t have a step to work with. So I improvised with a stool, which I don’t recommend at all. Not only is that dangerous, but I couldn’t even do half the exercises right because it wasn’t the right size. So I tried this for about a half an hour and it did have me sweating, but it was hard to keep up since I had the wrong equipment. I would love to do this if I had a step. What I did like about this DVD is that there is a separate section where Christi goes through all the moves that will be used during the workout, which is extremely helpful and something you don’t see on a lot of DVDs. It’s too bad I’m not able to do this because it does look pretty fun.

- Susan Tuttle’s “Latin Sensation:” OK, honestly I didn’t try this, but I watched it before I was going to try it, and then didn’t attempt it. The truth is, dance workouts are just not for me. I know that some people love them, like the whole Zumba craze, but I’m just not into it. Not only do I hate dancing, I also am just terrible at it, and I find it hard to keep up with dance workouts on DVDs. Personally, I would much rather do the regular old strength, cardio, Pilates/yoga moves. I could see how a dance workout could be fun for other people; it’s just not my style.

I haven’t yet gotten to the day where I’ll be doing Ilaria Montagnani’s “Powerstrike 5” DVD, and I’m excited about trying that one because I LOVE kickboxing workouts.

I’d love to do this entire 60-day program at once, but since I review so many different workouts it would be hard for me to commit to a 60-day program. So in between other workouts, I’ll do a week or so of this program until I eventually complete the whole thing. I think that’s a good goal to work toward and would be a really great accomplishment.
