Breakfast of Champions for Your Skin!

iStock_000008229356XSmallBreakfast of Champions for Your Skin!

It’s 5 am and time to get up.  Half asleep, I make my way to the kitchen and start pulling out the oatmeal, eggs, banana, avocado, and honey.  Next I have to decide what I am going to have for breakfast.

Bet you thought the ingredients were going to be a healthy breakfast of champions.  You're halfway right; the ingredients are for the Champion's face instead of her belly!

Keeping in line with what is healthy for your body, I’m about to share with you with some healthy facial masks.

What makes a facial mask healthy?  To start, all-natural ingredients will ensure there isn’t anything that will harm your skin (allergic reactions aside).  A lot of popular products unfortunately incorporate scents, artificial colors, and chemicals.  Crazy enough, some of these chemicals actually do the opposite of what your mask should do and leave your skin dry and unhealthy.

Besides all-natural ingredients, making sure your mask has other benefits such as exfoliation, hydration, and healing properties is important as well. Below I have listed some of the great benefits that these foods have on your skin. You can create and customize your own mask with many ingredients, but these are some of my favorites.

Egg Whites - The “Botox alternative”; this is a potent ingredient for anti-aging benefits.  It is cleansing, exfoliating, and tightening to the skin.

Oatmeal - Great for exfoliating, soothing, and helps rid of dry itchy skin . Great for sensitive skin as well.

Banana - Helps battling dry skin.  Great for adding moisture and reducing wrinkles.

Honey -  Keeps moisture inside your skin.  The hydration keeps skin supple and soft.

Avacado -  The oil from the avacado dissolves oil and dirt that clogs the pores.  Another great anti-ager.

Basic Egg White Mask:

What you will need:

1 Egg white

Directions:

1.    Simply whisk the egg until it becomes frothy
2.    Apply the egg onto your skin with a facial brush
3.    Lie down and relax for 15-20 minutes with the mask on your skin.
4.    Rinse skin with cool water

Basic Oatmeal Mask:

What you will need:
¾ cup of dry oatmeal
1/3 cup of water

Directions:
1.    Mix oatmeal and water together
2.    With your fingers apply the mixture onto your skin around your eyes and all over your face.
3.    Lie down and relax for 15-20 minutes with the mask on your skin
4.    Rinse skin with cool water

Tips to get the best benefits from the masks:

* Cleanse your skin before applying a mask.
* If you have access to a steamer or steam room it will help open your pores so the ingredients can penetrate deeper into your skin.
* Apply the mask to your neck as well as your face, especially the anti-aging ones.

Whether you're trying to get rid of breakouts or you're trying to achieve youthful skin you can use foods as mask and get the most fabulous results!  Give it a try and let me know what you think!
