A Healthy Pulse Rate
Hi girls,Does anyone have a good idea of what a healthy pulse rate is?
I checked mine a few days ago, and my resting heart rate was 55 per minute. DH is on me about too much cardio. He's afraid that my pulse rate will get so low, I'll keel over and die. When I started back in the gym in about Nov., or Oct. of '08 it was about 70.
I'm ragging on him to do more cardio. His is down to 88 per minute, from 100.
What is the norm?
Thanks

I'm not really sure what a healthy heart rate is quantified as, but I have checked to see how long it takes my heart rate to return to normal after plyometrics and military miles.
My resting heart rate is ranges from 40-45. I think the amount of cardiovascular activity is probably a determining factor. Like I do believe Lance Armstrong clocks in at close to 30 beats per minute.
I love google. One "Doctor" indicates in the average adult anywhere 60-100 bpm is normal. For athletes 40-60 is normal. And typically lower means better heart function, cardiovascular health, etc. (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/heart-rate/AN01906)
Wheee as long as your body isn't giving you any warning signs, it's probably a pretty good indication of improved health Laura!

60bpm is at the low end of the "healthy" range, but mine is about 54 and I feel my cardio health isn't as good as it could be. I have my doctor check it when I see him, and he's not concerned. Lower typically indicates a healthy heart, but it could indicate an underlying health concern. As long as you don't feel faint or weak, you're probably just very healthy!

The heart rate for women is considered healthy between seventy and eighty beats per minute. In most females, about sixty to seventy-five, there hasn’t been a major difference found in comparison to men, however, between the ages of about twenty-five to forty, men have a slightly lower rate.

Thanks for the input.
DH is always afraid I'm going to die. His was 120, resting 2 years ago. Since he's been working out, and eating better, it's in the low to mid 80's.
Mine is usually around 60-65.
