Default Nuts Help Promote Weight Control

    Nuts Help Promote Weight Control
Adding healthy foods to the diet is more important for health and longevity than eliminating unhealthy foods. Eating more fish, broccoli, tomatoes and apples is a more positive step than cutting out foods high in fats and simple sugars. Adding nuts to your diet is a positive step toward wellness. Purdue University scientists, in a review of literature, concluded that nuts promote weight control and that nut eaters tend to be thinner than people who don’t eat nuts (i.e., lower body mass index— a measure of the proportion of weight to height). Nuts are high in fiber, healthy fats and protein. They also trigger chemicals that increase metabolic rate. Almonds, pecans, peanuts and walnuts are healthy foods that promote fullness. Nuts are calorie-dense but they don’t promote weight gain because they suppress hunger and increase metabolic rate. Adding healthy foods such as nuts to your diet is a positive step in your wellness program. (Journal Nutrition, 138: 1741S-1745S, 2008)

Nuts are a good source of healthy fats we need to help lose WT faster! People go on these low calorie, 0 carb diets & they don't get the healthy fats they need because in most crash food plan's there are none. Trying to explain good fats is nearly impossible to quick fix gimmick dieters! They hear FAT and freak out. Healthy fats excel fat loss..Almond's are my favorite.

So true! People are afraid of fats. This dates back to before Atkins days when Americans were on the Fat-free kick. Everything was fat-free, low-fat, 99% fat-free, non-fat, etc etc. The thing is, in order to make these foods taste better loads of sugar and preservatives were added. In the end the product tastes terrible and is far worse for you than consuming fats in the first place. Not to mention the fat burning benefits of a diet high in mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids!!

What people SHOULD stay away from however are TRANS-fats. Those should be banned in all 50 states AND around the world. They do nothing but cause cancer and oxidative damage to cells.

I am new to the board... I know this an old post, but it is good to read that I am doing the right thing by eating my nuts! Go walnuts! Go almonds! I am always trying to get my kids to snack on them!

For some odd reason, I hate the tast of nuts, almonds, pecans, peanuts.. all of them. Would sunflower seeds be considered a nut or at least a good fat???

How many do you eat at a time or per day? How do you control protions? I tend to eat WAY too many and have decide to cut them out altogether.

I take a small handful of almonds out of a bag, then I close up the bag and put them away. Then I only have what fit in the palm of my hand.

I just switched from peaunut butter to almond butter. I've heard almonds are much better for health than the peanuts.
I do love my almond butter! yum yum

do you girls eat cashews or cashew paste as well? I tend to eat the non processed cashews combined with dried goji berries. Rhe white cashews have an almost buttery taste to them, rich and creamy
we also het hazel nut (is that what it's called in english?) paste and almond paste and mixed nuts paste and paste...am still looking for walnut paste :-) sunflower seeds paste has a very rich taste too...a little goes a long way!
