Workout on the Go

Workout on the Go

Vacations or traveling can make you either completely toss your workout routine our the window or create an un-necessary anxiety around it.  Scoping out a hotel with a gym or deciding when you’ll squeeze in a workout can sometimes be a challenge.  For me, before I go on a trip I mentally tell myself that working out during the trip is not something I can opt out of - it’s a matter of what I’ll be doing each day.  I’ll usually give myself one day off while away but once my rest day is gone the workouts all other days are mandatory.  My family knows how important exercise is to me and is no longer surprised when I walk out in workout wear straight to the garage or backyard (depending on the time of year) with my earbuds in my ears.  There are plenty of ways to get a great workout in without having to pay 15$ for a daily gym pass.

30 Seconds Each exercise:
1)    High knees
2)    Squat jumps
3)    Jump lunges
4)    Side to side boxer twists
5)    Jump rope (you don’t even need an actual rope, use an invisible one!)
6)    Burpees

Go straight into:
1)    25 pushups
2)    50 walking lunges (I usually grab something heavy in the yard and hold it overhead for these)
3)    2 minutes of your choice of abs

Repeat 4-5 times

Do this workout and you’ll have yourself a complete total body workout without ANY equipment or having to find a gym.  You can also switch out exercises or find your own favorites or even make something up on your own . Suicides, hill sprints and a nice long run are also a few of my other favorites to get my on-the-go workouts in.  Fitness is not always confined to a gym so get creative with your routines.  Feel free to get additional ideas or share your own on the Fitness/Nutrition section of the FitnessRX for Women forums.  Hope to see you there!
